Turning “Impossible” Projects into Dream Homes
We first connected with the homeowner of this Brookfield property after they’d already talked to several contractors, all of whom told them the same thing: that what they wanted couldn’t be done. The ask was simple in concept but, according to others, impossible in practice.
They wanted to remove and reposition their fireplace hearth. It was an outdated, plain design that didn’t reflect the rest of their home’s modern aesthetic. They had a clear vision for something cleaner, more striking, and more in line with their dream home. But each time they shared that vision, they were told it couldn’t happen, citing code restrictions and structural limitations.
That’s when they found Compass Construction & Remodeling.

Client Inspiration
We Didn’t See a Problem—We Saw a Path Forward
When we came in, we approached the project the way we always do: by listening first, and then getting into the details. That’s the Compass way. We then took a closer look at the chimney structure and reviewed local code guidelines. What we found was surprising: there were no code issues at all.
So we got to work. To create the space the client envisioned, we rebuilt part of the chimney system and reworked the fireplace layout. It wasn’t flashy work, but it made all the difference. The result was a new fireplace with a dramatic, modern design clad in marble quartz—sleek, elegant, and fully aligned with the look and feel of the rest of their living space.

Before Project
Smooth Process, Lasting Impact
The project took about 10 weeks from start to finish, with the only delays coming from standard compliance checks. Otherwise, the process moved smoothly. There were no major hiccups, no hidden surprises. All it took was a clear plan, good communication, and focused execution.
The total investment came in around $28,000, and we worked with the client to make sure every dollar went toward what mattered most to them. As with every project, we helped them prioritize their wants versus needs, giving guidance where it was helpful while always staying true to their goals and their budget.

After Project
A Modern Touch for a Dream Home
This wasn’t a full-scale remodel, but the difference was transformative. With one major design update, the living space now feels cohesive, modern, and aligned with the homeowners’ vision for their dream home. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, creating a space you love isn’t about gutting everything. Instead, a focus on doing the right work, in the right way, is often key.
And sometimes, the only thing standing between a homeowner and the space they’ve been dreaming about is someone willing to say, “Yes, we can do that.”
